Chunky Amethyst and Dyed Quartz Points Necklace - Jewelry with Purpose - Amplified Peace

I made this one with great excitement when I found out the jewelry trends for 2019 were going to be big, chunky styles.

Thats my favorite!

Big amethyst beads offset with dyed AB finish quartz points. A handmade wire wrapped sterling free form wire pendant is the focal.

It's not a long piece, 19", so it sits just passed the collar bone. Right at the opening of a shirt, and becomes the star of the show.

Amethyst is the stone of peace and calm, and quartz is an energy amplifier.
Not a bad thing to have amped up!

I won't be offended if this necklace is out of trend now, because it is just my style, and I may have to start wearing it!!!

Wire Wrapped Natural Amethyst Pendant

Amethyst is a type of quartz. typically forms in crystal clusters in geodes. Amethyst can also be found opencast in veins and in druzy cavities in larger rocks.  The size and color of the points vary, which dictates the value of the stone.
In a geode example
Amethyst from Brazil in the Mineral museum in India - Wikipedia

you can see the points, or 'teeth' and how they fit together like a puzzle piece.

If a large geode is broken or dropped the points can fall out of the geode
providing a beautiful sample to wrap!

Thus is the case with this piece of amethyst. I have a collection of points that I use to wrap as jewelry, pendulums or to use as a pocket stone or a stone for a medicine bag.

This made a really big, fun pendant with a simple hippie wrap.
Amethyst is and artist stone, promoting creativity.
The shape of this stone, the textures, the lines not only peak a creative interest in me, but also satisfy a my tactile nature.

How do you keep your amethyst points? In your pocket, in a pouch as a pendant?
Inquiring minds want to know!

and remember, be peaceful, and be kind, it's important!!

Amethyst - The Stone of February

Amethyst is February's birthstone - that's a given.
Amethyst is more than purple and shiney and faceted in a pretty setting.
Amethyst is the stone of peace

Amethyst is in the quartz family and can be found all over the world, and with great abundance in Brazil and Zambia. It's color can range from lightest to darkest purple. Some so dark they almost look black when in the middle of cluster.

When heated, amethyst can turn yellow to dark orange, to resemble citrine. But unlike citrine, if exposed to direct sunlight over time, those colors will fade out and the stone will be clear like quartz.

As mentioned earlier, amethyst is the stone of peace. It is the stone for travelers, used to control evil thoughts and much more. I keep amethyst in my car at all times for all of these reasons :)

I use amethyst often in my work because of it's peaceful properties. It is a great addition to any stone combination :)

Until next time

And as always, Be peaceful, Be kind.

Hot off the Work Bench - Earrings!

Had a little bit of time this evening and worked up a few new pairs of earrings. I am trying to add to my Etsy store and also flesh out my display at The Green Monkey downtown.

These are cute little hippie earrings. I call them "Peace, Love and Sunshine"  Resin peace symbols, millefiori glass hearts, and seed beads.

Paired up these cute lampwork sugar skulls and added a crazy Czech crystal cluster on top. Looks like a crazy blue wig :)

Sweet little porcelain puffed beads topped with agate and accented with a cute little copper spiral.

Just having a bit of fun on a Thursday night :)

December Birthstones - What do they say about you?

It is December already! I think December brings out a love/hate relationship with a lot of people:) Love it, because it is your birth month, love it because it is the holiday season, love it because of solstice or hate it because it is your birth month, hate it because it is the holiday season, and you are not ready, hate it because - where has the year gone?!?!!??!?

December is my favorite month because of solstice - that means the days begin to get longer, and I love me some sunshine.

December birth stones are turquoise and blue topaz. These stones represent a happy life that is filled with good fortune. Blue topaz is a symbol of peace and relaxation, which may help with headaches - poor December babies seem to be challenged by them.

Ancient practitioners believed that turquoise would actually change color when the wearer was ill or in danger.

I am a huge fan of turquoise, and only recently did this love affair begin. My memories of turquoise were tarnished (for a lack of better words) from the 70's and what I remember of the squash blossom style jewelry craze. It was just too much for me. I never saw turquoise unless it was large and framed in lots of silver. It always looked heavy, a chore to wear. This was my association with turquoise. It wasn't til I started making jewelry and my husband wanting turquoise did I reluctantly start to learn about the stone. I had to get over that turquoise pieces had to be over the top. The turquoise could be an accent to a design, or the core of it. The beads could be small or faceted or square or whatever.

And I fell in love.

Turquoise, beautiful sky blue, or dyed to a royal purple.

Mixed with other stones for a beautiful compliment of color and properties.

It has a sweet and gentle energy. It feels like an old friend.

So hats off to you December babies, and your beautiful stones that represent who you are. I am a bit jealous ;)

Celebrate February with Amethyst!

As most of us know - amethyst is February's birthstone. The colors range from a light, almost clear purple, to some that are so dark, they look indigo. It is a beautiful member of the quartz family.

Did you know there is more to amethyst than just it's beautiful color and February? It is said that amethyst is the 'sobriety stone'. It was crushed into a powder and added to liquid to protect against drunkenness.  The word amethyst comes from the Greek meaning "without drunkenness" and amethyst is believed to protect one from poison.

It is a bringer of peace, and worn by some to repel guilty and fearful feelings. It has been worn as protection from self-deception, see where the peace comes in. :)

I love amethyst whether set in jewelry, tumbled and in my pocket, or as a formation on my mantle, don't you :)

This has always been one of my favorites, and I am not even a February baby....hrm, I am an October baby, let's see...count back 9 mo....OMG! in a way, I am a February baby :)

"Karma Clusters" Keeping the Design Simple

While I do like my jewerly to make a statement all on its own, I am finding a new appreciation for the simplicity of a design as well.

I love these small clusters on a simple chain. They don't over do it, and the colors I am using are not bold. This is the versatile choice - perfect for dressing up, to the office, or everyday.

This one is made up of rhodonite, amethyst, fluorite, rose quartz and coral. Peace and Love - who wouldn't want this with them everyday!

Copper Wire Heart Necklace

I don't as a rule duplicate my work, but this is so cute, and so customizable. The heart is 14 ga wire, free formed into a heart, hammered, and wire wrapped at the loops for strength. Then going with the obvious - heart, red - I wrapped it with a few accent beads for a color splash.

Any color combination could be used, and any blessing could be added, say, amethyst for peace, who doesn't want a peaceful heart, or agate for harmony, who doesnt' want a harmonious heart!

Do you duplicate your work or do you like to keep all of your work one of a kinds? Do you find it difficult to keep the creativity going when all of your work is one of a kind?

Tree Agate Bracelet

I love this little bracelet. It is full of spring and summer fun.

It all started out with that copper pendant.  I had an idea for earrings, but there was only one.  What was I going to do with it. Then the idea hit me. Make it a clasp.

It wasn't hard to put the design together. These beads were all leftovers from another project or three. They were laying about the work table, just begging to be put together.  Agate for harmony, and amethyst for peace.
The rest kinda explains itself :)

Peace and Love - Messages from a stone necklace

I love being inspired by one component of a design and starting the build from there. The glass heart pendant started this design. The green in the glass was a perfect compliment to the sandy colors of the jasper beads. Jasper is the stone of gentleness and nurturing. It is said to bring joy. Why not pair it up with that heart, and wear your heart out for all to see and bring joy to those around you!
The little brass clasp with the peace symbol - didn't take much to push me in that direction :) Amethyst, fluorite, apatite and tourmalated rose quartz. Coupled with the lampwork heart - all speak peace.
I added the blue shell that I found on the beach as a personal touch, and now I am a bit torn about it... Should I change it up? Does it need a different focal? Should I stop over analyzing it?

A Bead A Day

I'm addicted!!!

I can't stop with the pendants....I cant' I tell you!!!

I get a sense of freedom when I create them. There is no order or structure, they flow and just...happen.

This one is dyed howlite. Howlite is often dyed this turquoise color and sold as turquoise. It is a cheaper alternative, and has a beautiful color. But....did you know, howlite is the stone of calm, patience, and decreases an overly active critical mind. Blue is the color for calm and relaxation to counteract chaos or agitation.

How is this not the perfect combination!

I fell in love with this little piece of tumbled ocean jasper. Ocean Jasper heals the emotions and brings peace of mind. It helps with acceptance of responsibility and increases patience. Now along with that - do you see that little foot print in the middle? I over emphasized the swirls at the top to represent the paths we take, for they are never straight are they :)

Now this little guy - I am in love with. I chose lapis and bronzite and accented it with citrine. This is meant to be a busy little piece and keep your eyes moving.

Lapis brings truthfulness, openness and inner power. It strengthens the mind and body as well as increasing awareness. It can help organize daily life as well as organizing and quieting a busy or restless mind. Lapis also helps build self-confidence.

Bronzite is called the "Stone of Focused Action", and is helpful for bringing certainty and with taking control of our actions. It can also help one to think ahead about things, enhancing the ability to take control of our own lives.

Citrine is known as a "success" stone. Its lore also says that it enhances mental clarity and will power.

Do you see how they all come together with the quieting of a restless mind, bringing certainty and mental clarity? And all the colors work great too!!!

A little something to hold on to

Sometimes we all need a little something to hold on to to remind us there is a higher power, or to remind us of our good qualities, or even to give us that little bit of luck we need that day.

Gemstones portray that 'little bit of something' to me. They are easy to carry around or wear as jewelry. I can easily reach up and touch a pendant as a reminder, or reach into my pocket and feel their warmth and reassurance. Silly to some I know, but it is the same as throwing salt over your shoulder when you spill it, crossing your fingers for good luck, keeping your St. Christopher metal on the rear view mirror of your car, or not jinxing your team by always wearing the same outfit to the game. All of these are our little traditions or superstitions that make us feel better about us.

With this in mind, I made this pendant for my sister in law. I chose the stones for their meanings and 'powers'. She is gentle and loving soul, her life is her family and friends, a teacher, with genius creativity.

I wrapped garnet, citrine, iolite and carnelian to the crystal, which is is the focal, which amplifies the qualities of the stones.

Garnet: Removes negativity, career success, self confidence.
Citrine: Success, intuition, creativity
Iolite: Intuition, inner knowledge
Carnelian: Creativity, peace, luck
