What Was I Thinking!!

 I have been at this a long time! 20 years in fact. I have had a lot of fun over the years and had my share of recognition when this medium was new.  Last year things changed. All of this that I loved turned into a grind and I entertained the idea of retiring.  I dumped most of my social media, didn't renew any of my items on Etsy, didn't apply to any shows and I got a job!!

That lasted about five months and I got the itch again. I have a studio full of tie dye, jewelry, crochet and I just couldn't let it sit there. I didn't know what to do with it all. I crept back on to social media, but at a different pace this time, on my terms, where I wasn't in a grind. I think all the social media pressure is what pushed me over the edge. I was already in burn out from family care and loss and I didn't let myself grieve, I just kept pushing, kept creating. 

So here I am, back at my blog, dusting off the keyboard and settling back in to where it all started. Does anyone blog anymore? Let's bring it back shall we!

I want to use my blog to share with you my latest projects, where I am showing, what is the newest items in my stores (yes plural, I have three), vacations, ups and downs, just all of it. 

Back to the title, "What was I Thinking" I have accepted the challenge of separating my Etsy store into three stores of my work. My original store JustATish Designs for jewelry will stay the same. I have also added JustATish Tie Dye and JustATish Crochets. I found having all of my items in one store was just to cluttered and hard to navigate. I also got feedback from shoppers that conveyed the same.  I honestly feel like I can breathe a little easier and I am not as overwhelmed by doing this. (Well overwhelmed re posting all of the items, but it is a labor of love, right??)

Here is the first of many posts that may take a minute for me to get into a rhythm on when to post, but I am excited again, and that feels good. While I am working out my schedule, check the links to the right for links to my store, my social media and where I will be showing.

Lapis Wire Wrapped in Yellow Brass Pendant

 

I love lapis. 

Do I love it because blue is my favorite color, and lapis is that beautiful, bold, cobalty blue? Maybe the energy behind the color blue itself is what draws me.  Does Lapis share any of the energies with the color? Do I love lapis because of it's metaphysical properties?  

What is it!!??

I find this very interesting.....

Blue: the color of communication, peace, protection and clarity

Throat chakra: the color blue, for communication

Lapis: the stone of truth, deep communication, friendship and harmony

and I can go on and on and on.

How awesome is the correlation between the color, the chakra and the stone. 

Once I started to make the connection it made it so much easier to study and relate to the properties of stones, and I just wanted to share that with you today.

Copper Wire Wrapped Cuff with Dragon Blood Jasper

I stumbled on a new shop on Etsy,  JL Dreamworks with stones I have never heard of before. This is now one of my favorite places to shop for stone beads. 

Here I found dragon blood jasper (also called blood jasper).  It is a beautiful stone. If unakite and bloodstone had a baby, it would be dragon blood jasper. 

It has the green and red/brown spots like a blood stone, but the mottling of unakite if that makes sense. 

It is just dreamy to me!

A little about the stone: 

The dragon blood jasper is a powerful healing and protective stone. Healing in all aspects of your life, emotional, spiritual, mental and physical as well as keeping negativity from you. 

It is a green stone, which connects it to the  heart chakra.  This helps to keep depression and loneliness at bay, and helps to keep your moods high.

Long Necklaces Are The Trend!

Doing an online search as I do three or four times a year to find out what the newest jewelry trends are. I was thrilled to see these long over the head necklaces are making a comeback!

The style is simple. A long chain, 32" or so, that will go over your head without the need of a clasp, and a pendant or a statement focal of several beads at approx 4" - 7 ". 

SO CUTE!!

These necklaces are a great way to use your one off beads or your larger beads that just don't quite fit into a design.

Beautiful Super Clear Quartz Pendant Wire Wrapped in Copper - Jewelry with Meaning - Amplified Energy

Quartz is life!

Quartz the most abundant mineral and is found all over the world, and you can find it growing in other crystals and minerals!

Quartz has a hardness of 7 making it very useful in the making of glass and electronic components.

Quartz is a master healer, a stone of power and a stone that amplifies the energy of others stones and you! So if you are happy that is amplified, but be warned if you are in a bad mood, that can be amplified as well! It is said to absorb, store, release and regulate energy.

I chose copper wire to wrap this stone because copper is also a conductor of energy. It seemed to be the perfect wire with its properties to accent the properties of the quartz.

I love this little stone, it is one of the clearest quartz I have ever seen. There is an indention in the front of the pendant, where this crystal may have had a another crystal growing across it and it got knocked out. So this little quartz crystal has a missing friend.

Chrysocolla and Brass Coin Earrings - Jewelry with Meaning - Communication

I found a listing on Facebook, someone had several strands of gemstones they bought to make jewelry and decided they didn't want to do it anymore. 

I got some beautiful strands 

One of them was chrysocolla. 

At first I wasn't for sure what to do with them. Then one day digging thru my stash, and organizing I found these fun brass coins. 

It all fell into place after that!!

Agate and Sodalite Necklace with Tree of Life Pendant - Jewelry with Meaning - Harmony in Thought

I went to the Bead and Gem show at the fairgrounds in Raleigh. I love to go, not always to buy, there is just so much to see!

I found these silver tone tree of life pendants. I have the in copper tone, but have never seen silver. Fell in love. 

Now what to do with them?

Agate and sodalite are a great combination. 

Not only because of color, because orange and blue look awesome together, but also for properties.

Peridot and Sterling Wire Pendant - Compassion

I wanted to do something a little different. Instead of wrapping a stone, I made a simple design from 18 ga sterling silver wire and added 

4mm peridot beads as an accent. It is a real fun combination!

Very simple design: cut a length of wire, use a round nosed pliers and bend the wire around the base of the tine at the mid point of the wire. On one end of the wire, made a wire wrapped loop. On the other end of the wire, wrap it around the base of the wire wrapped loop one, and make a spiral out of the tail to lock it into place. Then hammer the wire to hold the shape of the pendant, and add wire wrapped peridot accents. Use any bead to accent this pendant.

Known as the stone of compassion, peridot is believed to bring good health, restful sleep and peace to relationships by balancing emotions and mind. This friendly bright green stone also has the uncanny ability to inspire eloquence and creativity; it also brings delight and good cheer. (1)

Did you know, one of only two gems (Diamond is the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by the tremendous forces of earthquakes and volcanoes.(2)

Copper Wire Wrapped Serpentine Donut Pendant - Not Jade

A lot of times you will see serpentine sold as jade. But this isn't the case. Serpentine has a waxy feel to its finish, and is light weight. It also makes more of a thunk when tapped. Jade has a glassy smoother finish and is heavier than it looks. It also makes a 'tink' when tapped. 

If you have bought this stone before, meaning serpentine, but you were told it was jade, never fear. Serpentine is a beautiful little stone with amazing properties!

Serpentine is a great stone for meditation opening doors for spiritual exploration. It helps with directing healing energy toward problem areas. Think of it as your guide to past lives, helping you regain those lost memories and wisdom.

Ruby in Zoisite Pendant

Ruby in zoisite such a sweet little stone. I got these square faceted top drilled beads from Fire Mountain Gems. 

Each bead is about 18mm square and when wrapped makes them just about an inch. 

The red or the ruby varies between each bead, some more than others and not always on both sides of the bead. Which is pretty cool for a pendant style, because you can wear it either way, and it can be more versatile!

I have paired these little beads with copper and sterling, both wire showcases the beautiful little stone.

Ruby in zoisite is the stone of happiness and abundance.  

 I know it makes my heart happy!!!

Multi Color Disk Bead Wire Wrapped Necklace and Earrings on Yellow Brass

I found a strands of these rainbow colored disk beads of dyed howlite. I fell in love at first site. 

I had to have them. 

Now what to do with them. 

I have had them for well over 2 years really wondering what I could do with them, other than the occasional accent bead in earrings or pendant. 

I was pushing them around on my work bench, and then just for fun began to stack them. 

That was when I go the idea!

Wire wrap the stacks into segments and make a necklace out of them. 

I used 20 ga yellow brass wire for the links and 18 ga yellow brass wire to make the hook. 

I added an accent of vintage crystal to the hook. 

It can be worn, with hook in front or in back. 

Versatile little necklace!

The earrings I wire wrapped on 18 ga yellow brass with a hammered spiral on the bottom. 

The ear wires are of hammered 20 ga yellow brass. 

  

Howlite is used to relieve anxiety, tension and stress.

Maybe that is why it is dyed so many happy, bright colors!

Sodalite on Copper Wire Loop Earrings - Logic

18 ga copper wire formed into a loop and hammered for stability.

Wire wrapped with 24 ga copper wire to keep the shape.

Center drilled heishi cut sodalite beads wire wrapped to the bottom.

Surprisingly light and with a flirty fun swing. You know they are there, but they are not distracting. 

Sodalite is the stone of logic. It encourages rational thought, objectivity, truth and intuition, along with honest communication of feelings. Sodalite brings emotional balance and calms panic attacks. It enhances self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-trust.

Bronzite Pendant

Some drilled beads can be so big, that they are hard to work into a design, mainly due to the weight of the stone. 

Such was the case of these 20mm bronzite bead. 

Why not make a focal of its own!

Bronzite is confidence and courage. It helps to resolve unsettled emotions. Great stone to use for new moon rituals. 

It was so simple! I used 18 ga sterling wire, made a bale at the top, pushed it thru the bead, brought it up the front of the bead, made a spiral and finished the tail at the bail. 

Viola!!

Copper Wire Wrapped Cuff - Iolite and Quartz - Amplified Intuition

I am re visiting a design from 9 years ago. 

I started making jewelry because I wanted something that fit my personality, not something that was a popular trend. 

It has been so much fun to explore, create, design and fulfill a need in me to have an idea become not only tangible but functioning.

I love bangles, but what I have found, because of industry standards, my large working hands will not fit into a bangle. So I have wore cuffs. (I make awesome bangles now, I will touch on them later)

So because I wear bangles, I want bangles that are more artistic, organic, flowing than what I can find in a store. You know the classic, cuff with stones in bezel cups?

That is how my wire wrapped cuffs were born. 

Let's make a cuff with texture, design and uniqueness that will also carry energy and properties from stones. 

Completely adjustable, comfortable and stackable!

Iolite and quartz chips wire wrapped onto 16 ga copper wire, hammered into form for strength and reinforced with a wire coil wrap. 

Iolite is for intuition, it restores a sense of perception, inspires creativity and more. Quartz is a natural energy amplifier. These go great together!

I can't wait to sit down at my bench and make several more of these. They are just so much fun!

Three Tier Drop Earrings - Green Quartz -

I love these sweet little stack bead drop earrings. 

When I am done with a design and have a few beads left over, it is always fun to play around with the extra beads to see how they may form into a pair of earrings. 

For these earrings I used green quartz, faceted glass and ceramic beads, and wrapped in sterling. 

They are very light weight and playfully swing from your ear lobe. 

Green quartz, think heart chakra, so love and happiness, along with the color green for prosperity, beauty and good luck.

I love quartz!!!

This quartz point has been dyed light blue, with an AB finish.  I did a quick hippie wrap of sterling silver on the top. I didn't want to take away from the stone with an ornate wrap. 

Quartz is an amplifier of energy. Because it is an amplifier of energy, it is also a master healer. 

Blue is the color of healing and happiness. 

What a great combination of color and crystal these are!!!

Orbicular Jasper Pendant

I got a mess of jasper beads given to me by a friend. In this bag, were drilled focal beads in all different shapes and sizes. They are all perfect sizes for pendants. I love this little orbicular jasper, also ocean jasper.

It was the perfect stone to wrap in copper, not only because of its color, but because of its properties. Copper is an energy conductor and helps to amplify your thoughts.
