Jasper Cabochon Wire Wrapped in Yellow Brass Pendant - Jewelry with a Purpose - Gentleness and Nurturing

Sometimes the wire wrap needs to be very simple because the pattern in the stone is so beautiful
This jasper cabochon is breathtaking to me.

Astral swirls of green, gray, cream and white make it look like a satellite fly over of a distant planet.
If I stare at it, I swear I can see the clouds swirling like they do on Jupiter!

Jasper is a stone known for gentleness and a nurturing spirit. It is one of my favorite stones.

If you like this pendant, you can find this one and more at my Etsy Shop!!

All of my jewelry creations are based on the metaphysical properties of the stones or the colors that are incorporated. Jewelry should be a window to our soul, a protector of our emotions and a companion to our spirit. All of my other creations come directly from my heart in hopes they touch yours as well. Bamboo Jasper Copper Wrapped Pendant - Jewelry with Meaning - Strong Healing

This bamboo jasper is another one I got from KGNShop on Etsy.

I love the off set cut of this cabochon.
It has a beautiful shiny finish on the front, and a matte finish on the back.

Bamboo jasper being part of the jasper family, has a gentleness and nurturing quality. It also helps to eliminate negativity. It is a strong healer and can be helpful when energy is low. Bamboo Jasper also  protects against negativity and is good for grounding.

Unakite and Garnet on Copper Bracelet - Jewelry with Meaning -

Unakite and garnet can both be found and mined in North Carolina! I love this and being a rock hound, have done my fair share running up and down creek beds looking for fun stone, minerals, crystals and more.

Did you know, Unakite is named after the Unakas Mts, where it was first discovered, right here in North Carolina.   Makes me happy to call this home.

These two stones are a great combination as well, with its properties of gentleness and love.

Garnet cleanses and re energizes the chakras. It revitalizes, purifies and balances energy, bringing serenity or passion as appropriate. ... Garnet balances the sex drive and alleviates emotional disharmony. It activates and strengthens the survival instinct, bringing courage and hope.

Unakite Jasper brings together the abundant, nurturing energy of green with the soft, caring passion of pink in one of Nature's most healing crystals of the heart and mind. It resonates with the frequency of love, compassion and kindness, and is a stone dedicated to balancing the emotional body.

Chalcedony with Jasper Earrings - Jewelry with Meaning - Brotherhood

Thats chalcedony?

picture of slice of chalcedony taken from WikiCommons
Isn't it suppose to look like this?

"Gigantic Chalcedony - 1" by the justified sinner is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

Chalcedony has many faces, just like all stones. When you have the beautiful solid color stone, that is set in earrings, ring or in your favorite pendant, that is what most of us think of when we think of chalcedony.

But wait there is more!!

Chalcedony (I used to pronounce it Chal-si-doney) really is the mother of all stones. When you break down the stones family tree, These varieties include agate, carnelian, onyx, sardonyx, chrysoprase, jasper, bloodstone, chert, and flint. Which all come from quartz!!

These earrings are chalcedony with jasper, just not what is considered the best quality stone, because it is not a solid classic chalcedony color.

The jewelry store quality doesn't take away from the stones properties.

Chalcedony is a nurturing stone (just like jasper is nurturing and gentleness)  that promotes brotherhood and good will. It absorbs negative energy. It brings the mind, body, emotions and spirit into harmony. Chalcedony instills feelings of benevolence and generosity.

What a beautiful little stone with awesome energy!!

New Treasures from Bonnaroo - New Stones for My Collection!

Our one vacation every year is Bonnaroo. If you have never heard of it, it is a 4 night music festival in Manchester, TN. I take that back, it is more than a music festival, it is heaven. Yes there is music, all types of music, but there is also experiences, classes, community and more. It is my mecca.

Each year when we go, we also buy a momento of sorts, typically a t shirt or hat, and every year I get a new stone.  I have gotten labradorite, ammolite, garnet, prehnite and this year I bought 7..... I couldn't help myself.

I typically shop at one tent in particular Twisted Bliss, and I did shop them, but I also found Wormtown Trading

I went for an early morning stroll, it was hot, I was on a mission for coffee. Very few of the vendors were open, and I stumbled into Wormtown. So many things, and so many of those things were crystals. Immediately the tourmaline caught my eye. I thought this will be the new pendant for the 2018 Bonnaroo experience. I continued to browse, and I found a box of very dark, tumbled cylinders. It looked like Pakistan Jade, but I thought it was too dark, and I had never seen it in long thin 'spears'. I asked what it was to make sure, and  - surprise - it is Pakistan Jade!

I continued to wander thru the tent, so many awesome stones, and most of them I had, but you never know when one will just pop out at you.

Then I found the bumble bee jasper..OMG! I love this so much. I have several cabs of this, that I have wrapped into pendants. I did some reading on this jasper, and found that it is volcanic made, and because of this, it is also toxic. The sulfur content in the stone is too high, and it will get into your skin. It is highly recommended that if this stone is made into jewelry, that is has a metal backing on it. They had so much of it displayed and I had to touch each piece. I asked one of the women working there if she had heard of the toxicity of the stone, and she had. We chatted about it for a bit, while I was still looking.

THEN I found a chevron amethyst point. I have chevron amethyst beads, but I had never seen it in it's natural state. FELL IN LOVE!

I was just about to check out when I spotted a box of carnelian. This beautiful stone, with all it's patterns and deep orange color had to come home with me because I am giving it to my daughter.

I had to stop.

Later that day I made it over to Twisted Bliss. I love that vendor so much. Not only do they have beautiful, and not so run of the mill loose stones, but the wire wrapping they do is incredible!!!

There I found the citrine.
O
M
G

That beautiful point with a window!!!!!

I got a smaller piece as well, to wrap for this years stone (i know I have the tourmaline for that) but you can't have too many pendants!!

The stones in the picture are as follows:
1 o'clock - carnelian
4 o'clock chevron amethyst
5 o'clock Pakistan jade
6 o'clock citrine point
7 o'clock citrine point
9 o'clock tourmaline
center - bumblebee jasper.

I'll break down each stones properties in the following blogs.

This is my collection for this year, and I can't wait to get busy at the bench and make some jewelry!!!!

Thanks for stopping by, be blessed and always remember, be peaceful, be kind and find time to create!

Porcelain, Ceramic and Faceted Jasper Earrings

I love rondells! To me, they make the best earrings because of the way they stack.

I found a strand of 12mm dyed porcelain beads at Michaels, of mixed colors, so bright and cheery, a rainbow on a string!! I fell in love with them. I wish I would have bought every strand they had!

I have used these beads in so many different earrings because they are light weight, bright, and being rondells, they allow you to stack, stack, STACK!!!!!

The green rondells are the focal of this design, and is perfectly complimented with the pink and brown speckled ceramic and copper. It just fits!

I added a small 4mm faceted jasper to the bottom of the earring for a 'base'. Jasper is the stone of gentleness and nurturing.

I love creating jewelry with a purpose, that is why I work with the metaphysical properties of the stones. I want jewelry to be more than an accessory, I want it to accent your soul, lift your mood, create confidence and support you and where you are emotionally and spiritually today!

I found a listing on Michaels site for an 8mm dyed howlite bead, that is VERY similar to these - you can find it here!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a blessed day, and always create!

Rhyolite and Jasper Necklace

Here is the first of my designs using this years Spring palette that I wrote about in my last entry.
Rhyolite focal stone with jasper, swarovski crystal and light blue glass beads.  I pulled the colors for the beads from the focal stone.

Jasper is a tender stone allowing itself to bestow gentleness on the wearer.

I am always in awe at the color combinations that are found in nature that just work!

Pantones Spring 2015 Colors - Love them!

The Pantone Colors for 2015 are very exciting to me. So cool and light. Very inviting. The official color names are:
14-4313 Aquamarine
16-4725 Scuba Blue
14-5714 Lucite® Green
19-4052 Classic Blue
14-1213 Toasted Almond
16-1720 Strawberry Ice
15-1247 Tangerine
13-0720 Custard
18-1438 Marsala

What I see is Lapis, Rhodonite, Carnelian, Turquoise, Jade and some fun Jaspers. From these stones come a very common theme - love, self love, self confidence - I can't wait to play around with my stones and make some fun jewelry for this Spring.

It's gonna be a great year!

Back to the Workbench

Getting back to the bench is always tough for me after a hiatus. I was ready for the holidays early (this is a first) and had all my pieces out in stores, and my online Etsy store stocked well. That gave me time to concentrate, on the house, the guests coming to visit, the cooking, working and last minute everything that I had put off to make jewelry :)

This year, I have decided to get back into shows and festivals, and my first one is Feb 1, 2014!!! Right around the corner! I am really excited. I have ordered my Square, a new banner and  new displays. I am one step closer. I need to buckle down, get a booth idea sketched out and get new items rolling out. Now sitting back at my workbench, ideas are there, I am just slow to produce them. My mind seems to be elsewhere.

To combat this, I put on music and randomly string. I do not commit the design, I just string, unstring, string, unstrings. Next thing you know, I have some ideas that actually are working for me, and I am excited to start on a new creations.

Here is a bit of a preview of what I am working on!

I hope this new year takes you on many magical adventures!

Resisting Autumn - Dangle Bracelet

When it comes to fall I am never ready. I am always holding onto my summer greens. That is what inspired this bracelet. Fall came late this year in the south. Leaves are still green and still changing and still falling to the ground in splendid color.

I love the eclectic sampling of beads on this bracelet. Green glass and lampwork, mixed in with golden brown lampwork and glass. Add a hint of mookite for a pop of color, some lapis for a glimpse of autumn skies and it all starts to come together like a picture from a fall meadow. There is so much more in this bracelet, as you wear it you will come across other beads and stones, like when you are walking in the yard, and kicking up leaves and finding small treasures buried beneath. What is your favorite part of fall?

Jasper and Tree Agate Set - Auction for the Crape Myrtle Festival

I was approached to do a piece for a silent auction to raise money for the Crape Myrtle Festival.

What is the Crape Myrtle Festival, I hear you say. Crape Myrtle Festival (CMF) originated in the summer of 1981 as a small backyard gathering in Wilmington, North Carolina. The party quickly grew in size and moved to Chapel Hill, focusing on the needs of the local gay and lesbian community. In response to the emerging AIDS health crisis, CMF soon began concentrating on raising funds for the HIV/AIDS service agencies located in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area.

The small party evolved into a yearly festival, increasing the donations given by individuals and corporations supporting its goal, and culminating in a Grand Gala celebrated in the last weekend of July. By the early 1990s, special events such as educational seminars, sports tournaments, and musical concerts preceded the Gala, resulting in a week of CMF activities.

In 1992 a group of dedicated individuals initiated the process of incorporating CMF as a recognized North Carolina non-profit organization. By law, these individuals became responsible for setting policies and drafting necessary documents. CMF received state recognition as an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in May 1993.

As the 1990s passed and the new millennium began, CMF continued to fine-tune its mission statement and broaden its focus to additional health needs found within the gay, lesbian, and transgender communities. For over two decades, it has heightened positive awareness and promoted fellowship in these communities located within the Triangle area. As we stay focused on our goals, CMF will continue to expand and identify new areas in which fundraising efforts make an impact on the community.

Now all that being said, what can I make that will reflect what the CMF does. Easy :) Jasper.

Jasper is the supreme nurturer, like CMF is so many ways, caring for and encouraging our communities, by raising awareness and helping to raise money for research for a cure for HIV/AIDS.  Now lets add in tree agate. Tree agate, is the stone of plenitude, don't think of it as money = plenitude, but how you have fullness and wholeness in your life when you are healthy. CMF's outreach is to heal, not only the bodies of those who are sick, but also to give a sense of pride to us as humans, that we can and should take on the responsibility of helping, caring, educating and uplifting our families, friends, and even more importantly, the strangers in our lives. Because, a stranger is just a friend we haven't met yet.

Inexpensive Glamor

I got a mix bag of acrylic beads from Firemountain Gems a while back, and have had so much playing with them.
There is a great source of inspiration in this fun little mix.

This is my latest creation using those acrylic beads, and adding some chain, and black stone.

Simple, inexpensive and oh so glamorous!

Chain, chain chain.....

Yes Yes, I sed it :)

So whilst cleaning and organizing my work room, it became clear to me I had a hording problem.
Chain.

Chain everywhere, spools of it, cards wrapped with it, baggies full of it. Way too much chain. I bought it for a reason, why haven't I been using it?

So I am going to make something with chain, lots of chain :)

I bought this aluminum chain online, was a good deal, didn't pay much attention to the size of the links - it is huge - I had no idea what to do with it, until now ;)

Jade and stone wear beads with swarovski accents. I think it needs more chain..
j
Jo fell in love with this one, and now she owns it. It is silver tone, brass, copper, plated you name it, all gobbed up in one glorious mess.

I'm a little hooked on this style right now. Is there a style that you are all about right now? Something you just love to and cannot create enough of? I'd love to hear about it and see it. Post me a link in the comments!!!

Workin on a custom piece

Ever seen these? The wire wrapped trees with natural stone? A friend of mine had one and stones had started to fall off - "Wonder if Tish can do anything with this?!?!"

Popped all the stones off, and have this great pile of jasper.

Poor little wire tree - wonder if I can do anything with this.

She also gave me this beautiful piece of carnelian (her grandfather cut and polished it) and a piece of tiger eye. She wants a necklace with the carnelian as the focal with the jasper pieces from the tree.

For the design, I paired up the jasper with tiger eye, lapis, bronzite, kyanite and rose quartz.

It is started - how will it turn out?

New Copper Pendants!

Found some time to make a couple pendants yesterday, thought I would share em here.

African bloodstone bead

This is a quartz - what kind I am not for sure. It is a top drilled pendant, so I just made a huge wrap at the top and added a swirl and seed beads for accent.

This one is a basket weave for lack of better words. I don't know what this style is called. This one is surprisingly easy, but time consuming. I thought I would try and break it down for you.

Create your loop or bale at the top of the wire, and then measure it around the cab. Lay the cab on your table, and measure the wire around the cab, slightly above where it is touching the surface. Make a wrap with the tail to secure it to the bale.

Turn the cab over. Make a loop at the end of the wire, and now measure the wire around the inside edge of the cab, and make a loop on the other end of the wire.

Use wire to connect the loops, to stabilize the base wire. (1) Wrap some wire around the base to stabilize the bottom of pendant (2) You will remove these as you work thru the piece

Start on one side (1) and begin your wrap. Wrap several times around the loop on the wire back then bring it over the top wire, and then back under the bottom wire - making a figure 8. You can do single wraps or make additional wraps on the top wire to space out the figure 8. EX. Two wraps on the top wire, down and under the bottom wire, two wraps, up and over the top wire, two wraps and so forth. Make several wraps to stabilize the one side, and use a second piece of wire and start on the other side. (2) Work your way down either side, alternating to keep the wires even and tight. If you want to add the decorative wire, (3) make a loop in a separate piece of wire. As you are working down the side of the pendant, position where you want your decorative piece to start, and when you wrap over the top wire, wrap over both pieces of wire. Then continue on with your figure 8. Leave the decorative wire til last.

Continue down both sides of the cab, until you get close to the bottom where you have anchored it. Clip the anchor wire off and continue with the figure 8 wrap til you meet at the bottom. Finish the wrap by wrapping it around the bottom wire a couple of times and giving it a good mash with your needle nosed pliers. Remove the anchor wire from the back of the pendant

Free form your your decorative wire, around the top. You can wire wrap the wire to give it extra texture, wire in crystals to the loops, the possibilities are endless.

I hope this gives you some insight on how to do this wrap. If this is clear as mud, leave me a comment, I'll wrap another one, and do step by step pictures.

Happy Wrapping!!!!

21-340-29-011 - Donut, Gemstone, Square, 50mm (Green Aventurine) *

I am a pendant fah-reek!! I love them. These are exceptional. The size and shapes are so fun. They are going to work great into any design.

Ok, and picture jasper - PICTURE JASPER!! How did you know it was one of my favorites? Did you know picture jasper helps create harmony, proportion, creative visualization, positive things in business pursuits. It brings and shows hidden messages from the past as well as hidden thoughts, fears, and hopes. These qualities make it useful as an emotional/psychological healing stone.

Do you see the silver mist jasper? I have been eyeballing it for sometime on Rings & Things site. I know I go on and on about different stones and that one is my favorite - I do love them all - but jasper has a special place in my heart.

Look at that Dumortierite! Dumortierite is used in the manufacture of high grade porcelain. It is sometimes mistaken for sodalite and has been used as imitation lapis lazuli. I can see where it would get confusing! Dumortierite enhances organizational abilities, self-discipline and orderliness. This enhancement is believed to be due to the effect it can have of balancing the throat chakra and enhancing communication between lower chakras/physical energy and the higher chakras/mental/spiritual energy. It highly reduces difficulties of scattered mind and disorganization. It has been used to help recovery from addiction and alcoholism. In addition, it encourages one to see and accept reality, and react to it in an intelligent manner in one's own behalf.

Snowflake obsidian, it absolutely stunning. The 'snowflakes' on this pendant are perfect, and so many! Snowflake obsidian has the property of bringing things to the surface. The things brought to the surface could be positive or negative, love, anger, secrets; but with snowflake obsidian, these things are brought to the surface more gently that they might be otherwise. Snowflake obsidian can provide balance during times of change. It aids in seeing patterns in life and recreating them in a more beneficial way. It is a stone of serenity and purity, and can shield against negativity.

And not to be over looked but that HUGE color enhanced aventurine. It is a monster!!! Aventurine is said to benefit one in all areas of creativity, and imagination, as well as intellect and mental clarity. Lore says that it enhances prosperity and brings career success. It is a gentle stone energetically that gives a sense of calm and balance and enhances happiness. It also helps one to see alternatives and potentials in all situations, giving a positive outlook, courage and inner strength. It is also said to bring luck, especially in games of chance. Green aventurine is also a mystical stone of prosperity. Aventurine bring friendship to one's life. It is also a stone of protection energies.

If you don't have an idea of how big 50mm is ......

Perfect ending to a not so perfect day!!

Multi strand necklace - Ink and Pink

I am really liking these multi strand necklaces with the one random strand.

It has an elegant feel, is bold, but light. I like that you can just pile on the seed beads for a bulky look and not have to sacrifice your neck with all the weight. The only thing that was thought out in this whole design was the focal. I wanted it to be in that exact spot - other than that, it just happened.

I gave this to my sister in law. She is one of my biggest fans.

New Pendants

Here is a peek at what I have been working on this week.

Jasper off center doughnut. I didn't see much need in adding too much to the copper wire. These two complimented each other so much, I just left it alone!

I have been pushing this bronzite square doughnut around my work table for months now thinking of something to do with it. I looked over at it, and a piece of copper wire was laying across it - the idea sprung to my head and I began to work.

Not only does the kyanite rectangle accent the bronzite bead, did you know, bronzite is called the Stone of Courtesy". Bronzite helps dispel uncertainty, it can help us also take necessary actions for our own benefit, while still being loving and polite and principled in our behavior.

Kyanite brings loyalty, honesty and tranquility, and diminishes anger and confusion.

Two great stones that look good together and function great together!!!

Till next time!!
