Flood the Streets with Art Part 7!!!!

This is my 6th year participating in Flood the Streets with Art, and I look forward to it every year!!

What is Flood the Street with Art?

This is what Scott Wong - Founder - says :)

The goal is simple: On BLACK FRIDAY (Nov. 29th, 2019) I want every artist, human being, man, woman & child on our planet to drop one piece art they've created on the streets of their community for a random stranger to find, pick up, take home & love. Yes, for FREE.

Allow me to explain...
Here in the United States of America, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day this year on Thursday, Nov. 28th, 2019. We will spend the day with family, friends & loved ones giving thanks for everything in our lives we have to be thankful for. It's really loving and special and meaningful. ♥
But then...
On the following day a.k.a. BLACK FRIDAY (the day after we've given thanks for everything we have in life), we rush out in an uncivilized manner trampling complete strangers to death while pushing, shoving & acting like a complete lunatic so we can buy a big screen TV for twenty bucks. I'm speaking tongue-in-cheek, of course, but truth be told, it's not that far removed from what actually happens. I wish I were joking. :(
That being said, I want all of us to come together as artists & human beings to do a random act of kindness on the one day of the year that I believe matters most. It's one day. One piece of art. The random acts of kindness should be plentiful & the excuses as to why you can't do this should be minimal. That means, I need EVERYONE to participate. Yes, everyone. Every human being should be doing this.
This is now my 7th year doing this event. I hold this event very near & dear to my part. If I didn't believe in such a powerful random act of kindness, I wouldn't do it. I guess-timated last year that upwards of 7,000 artists participated. Many artists dropped well more than one piece of art and hence, upwards of 18,000 - 20,000 pieces of art were dropped. I fully expect 2018 to be just as big. This is where all of you come in. :) I don't care if you paint, photograph, knit, sew, bead, weld, sculpt, woodwork, crochet or write music. I don't even care if you don't call yourself an "artist". I don't care if you're 7 years old or 77 years old. The fact remains is we're all human beings and the world can always use another act of kindness wherever your neighborhood may be. ♥
If you want to be a part of something amazing. Something positive. Something that matters. Something that will truly make a difference in someone else's life... now is your chance. Stop debating petty stuff on the Internet, Facebook and social media and do something that matters!
Join the event! LIKE it & SHARE it 'til you can't possibly share it anymore. And when you think you've shared it enough, then share the event again. Tell your friends! Tell your Mom! Tell your friend's Mom! :)
Questions, concerns, comments or remarks can be directed to me either via Facebook or via my direct e-mail address below.

This year I dropped 3 paintings and 3 tie dyed items

I am already planning for next year!!!!

All of my jewelry creations are based on the metaphysical properties of the stones or the colors that are incorporated. Jewelry should be a window to our soul, a protector of our emotions and a companion to our spirit. All of my other creations come directly from my heart in hopes they touch yours as well. Celebrate yourself with healing jewelry, and other gift ideas made with love!

Vision Boards

Monday is mediation day with a great group of ladies.
I have been meditating with them for over 10 years....10 YEARS!

They meet every Monday, I show up when I can.

Yesterday we did Vision Boards or Dream Boards.

I went into it with not a lot of thought. I wanted it to flow and be more spontaneous than planned out. I didn't want to fall into the process with a ton of preconceived ideas, and make a Wish Board. To me a Wish Board is a board that is loaded with pictures of nice cars, vacation destinations, new house ideas, all very material.

I am in a different place.

We meditated first, and I opened myself up to this experience and made note of any thoughts and used that as my platform for this years Vision Board.

Create
I AM
Experience
Learn
Me
Release
Beauty
Listen

These are all the words that came to me while meditating, so I ran with it.

Create, is an easy one, I am a creator. I used the color orange for creativity, yellow for happiness and green for prosperity.

I AM, the two most single powerful words you can ever say. These two words will change your reality in an instant, for better or for worse. be careful how you use them.

Experience, I am at a crossroads and am ready for new experiences.

Learn, always be learning

Me, a revelation. It is ok to be in love with me.

Release, baggage from yesterday, my journey is always forward.

Beauty, is in everything. Find it.

Listen, when you silence your ego, you will hear your spirit

That is the core of my Vision Board. There is also music and pets and growth and peace and kindness and so much more that makes up who I am, and where I want to be.

Did you make a Vision Board or a Dream Board?
What did you put on yours?

And remember, today and every day, be peaceful and be kind, it is important!!

What Is This Funnel and Am I Stuck in It?

I keep hearing it, over and over from online marketing gurus "funnel" "funnel".

Good God, another new term I need to learn. A new online, social networking vernacular that is ever changing requiring a person to live online.

I just want to create!

I dug into this 'funnel', I had to know what it was, what this buzz word was all about.

Well it appears that I am exactly who they are talking to when the are talking about this 'funnel'.

The way I understand it, the 'funnel' is all of the online tools you use to get people to one place. That one place that makes you money. That one place that has your product/service whatever, available for these people to buy/join, so you can make money, and keep doing what you do.

I have so many funnels, trying to get people to my Etsy store. That is the ultimate goal, right. Get people to my Etsy store, so they can buy things, so I can continue to create. But how much time do I actually have to create if I am posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest, YouTube, Newsletters AND Blogging. I have to come up with content for each of these platforms AND check in on them several times a day, so I can interact with anyone who has liked or commented, so I can be respectful and polite and grateful. Not to mention, it takes me several hours to post my art to my Etsy store because photography and photo editing are not my thing.

Breath Tish........

"Work smart" I hear

"Once your back gives out, you'll learn to work with your brain" my dad tells me

I just want to create, damnit why is it so hard?

I read about each of these different 'funnels' and either I am just drawn to the same articles over and over or maybe somethings have remained constant on the internet - blogging and newsletters.

I used to blog daily, and I loved it. Talking about everything jewelry, fashion, the components of the jewelry I made and maybe just a sprinkle of what what happening in my life, ya know, that personal touch. Then I fell out of it as more and more platforms became available. That, "Let's just take a picture and put a caption" that is easier! So I did, and I am caught in that instant gratification world, that scrolling lifestyle, that I need as much input as I can get in 1 minute.  That 'instant' has made it more difficult for me to blog. Now when I sit down to blog I hear a lot more of me slurping coffee than the tap tap tap of keys.

I keep saying I just want to create, and I just realized that blogging is creating. It does satisfy that need to create. I just scrolled up through this entry and realized I am creating, I am communicating and it feels good.

Now it is time to re think my path, re think this 'funnel' thing and focus on the creating. Focus on where I want my energy to go.

Create it and they will come

The Diversity of a Spiral - Tie Dye How To!

Who knew that the classic spiral tie dye was so diverse!

Who knew that the placement of the dye on the spiral created all of the awesome spiral effects that you see on tie dyed shirts!

AND even if you do all the dying the same way, how each spiral can vary!

This shirt was done with a three color stripe on one side and a solid color on the other side, and see the differences of this shirts!

This one is done, with one color on one side, and one color on the other. Very dramatic and bold look!

I have done a tutorial on two different dye placements on a spiraled shirt here on my YouTube channel . Tie Dye Tutorial .

I have more tutorials coming!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a blessed day, and always create!

Porcelain, Ceramic and Faceted Jasper Earrings

I love rondells! To me, they make the best earrings because of the way they stack.

I found a strand of 12mm dyed porcelain beads at Michaels, of mixed colors, so bright and cheery, a rainbow on a string!! I fell in love with them. I wish I would have bought every strand they had!

I have used these beads in so many different earrings because they are light weight, bright, and being rondells, they allow you to stack, stack, STACK!!!!!

The green rondells are the focal of this design, and is perfectly complimented with the pink and brown speckled ceramic and copper. It just fits!

I added a small 4mm faceted jasper to the bottom of the earring for a 'base'. Jasper is the stone of gentleness and nurturing.

I love creating jewelry with a purpose, that is why I work with the metaphysical properties of the stones. I want jewelry to be more than an accessory, I want it to accent your soul, lift your mood, create confidence and support you and where you are emotionally and spiritually today!

I found a listing on Michaels site for an 8mm dyed howlite bead, that is VERY similar to these - you can find it here!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a blessed day, and always create!

I Got The Tie Dye Bug!

This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I am a tie dye junkie, most of my clothes are tie dyed, and it is rare that I don't leave the house with at least one thing tie dyed on my body.

Back in the spring, we (me, my daughter, her bestie and daughter) tried 'staining' as tie dye. Using all the things that stain your clothes as the dye, ya know, coffee, red wine, mustard. It was a fun experiment, and the result were interesting. I think it would have been better if we would have let it sit several days, instead of an hour :)

A few weeks ago, my daughter hit me up, she had bought some liquid rit dye, and was going to re do her stained shirt. EXCITING!! We then devised a plan based on our limited knowledge of tie dying and the experiences we had had with rit dye.
1. use vinegar and water to wet the shirt
2. rubber band it
3. dye it
4. let it set a week
5. rinse, wash, wear

Her shirt turned out awesome!

Well now I caught the bug. I used liquid rit, soaked shirts in salt water (which i have now found out doesn't work with rit) and set the color with vinegar water, that does work!

I didn't document my first process with rit, so I did it again with two shirts so I can do a comparison when my professional dyes come next week. Yes! I jumped in with both feet, and I am going to start tie dying!!!

This is my first attempt. This is a rayon type fabric? was done with rit dye, soaked in vinegar water, and let set for 1 week before rinsing - SLAY!

This is a cotton dress, done in salt water, and let set for 4 days, washed and dried. Pretty, but not as bold as I wanted.

Here is one of my favorite shirts, stained of course. Gauze material. Soaked in salt water and rubber banded randomly.

here is another fav shirt, of course coffee stained.... I did the crinkle style on this one.

both shirts, crinkle on left, random on right

I put a rack over a plastic bowl and used squirt bottles to apply the dye. This way, I could pour the dye down the sink, and not make such a mess.

welcome to the house of a creative! we have no shame in our creating game, and use the whole house :)

i learned my lesson from the last tie dye session and i hung these two shirts in the shower to air for a week before rinsing. The first time I did it, I had them on racks on the shower floor, but due to all the salt, there was tons of rust, and it ruined the racks. Now we wait a week!

Thanks Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!

Tune in again next week for the reveal and the final vinegar setting process!!!

March is Craft Month - Crocheted Slippers

March is national craft month, and this month all of my blog posts will be of something I have made. My goal is at least 3 things a week. Let's Play!

Lasts night I did some surfing on YouTube and found several tutorials on how to crochet a slipper. These slippers are based loosely

I used the worsted weight medium size 4 Caron One Pound Yarn and a size H (5.0) hook

I have made hats, scarves and a blanket or two, so this was a fun change! One of the easiest things I think I have done. They are really quick to make

What I learned. Make them smaller than you need, because they stretch, and the yard feels 'hard' on the bottoms of my feet. I don't want to wear socks with them, that defeats the purpose of the slipper, but an insole works!!!!

What are you making for National Craft Month??

And as always, Be peaceful, Be kind.
Remember to explore, create, dream, imagine and discover!

March is National Craft Month - I Totally Forgot!!!

I completely dropped the ball on National Craft Month!!!
Ok, so we are three days into the month, so I am not that far behind. I can start today!
I had several ideas that I wanted to start in March, and thought I still had a week left!

Ok, so do you follow any March craft challenges? I would love to know about them.

Have you thought about trying a new craft, or starting a new hobby? March is the best time to do it!

Are you in a rut, and have walked away from your craft due to lack of inspiration? March is a great time to pick it back up and fan those flames of creativity!!!

I am off to start my crafting and try to inspire more creativity.

Post links in the comments of what you are doing for National Craft Month!!! I would love to see them!

Exploration in Creativity - Acrylic Abstract Painting

Inspiration is all around me, and it keeps a constant chatter in the creative recesses of my brain. Some things that inspire me or not jewelry related, therefore I explore many creative outlets. Painting has become an outlet of creativity for me. And I love it

August I went on vacation with my brother Toog (or Jerry Piper as the rest of the world knows him) to Santa Fe/Taos and I was blown away. We ran at break neck speeds all over the town going thru every gallery to take in as much 'culture' as we could. We took in so much, I think, no, I know, I blacked out a couple of times. So much stimuli, I was in art overload, and I loved it.

My painting style has been forever changed. From exploratory to experimental, and I really think I have found my niche.

I can't wait to see where this journey takes me.

I'm an enabler

Ok, i'll admit it. I'm an enabler - I want everyone to bring their ideas and inspirations to life. I want to help build their confidence and encourage their creativity. So many people are afraid to work with their ideas. Maybe it is more the fear of failing that keeps ppl from trying. I hear it all the time - "Well if I were as creative as you." Let me tell you honey, you are. Just listen to yourself, it is there.

When I make jewelry I make it out of my ideas, dreams and inspirations. Ultimately, I hope that it will touch someone enuff they just have to have it. (what a compliment when someone hands you cash for your creation) But that is what I make, what about what you want when you are shopping. What if you don't see it. What if you find things simialar to what you are looking for, or you see a design but it is just not the right color. How can you make your visions come to life.

I love when ppl come up to me with sketches, or jewlery pieces they want a match for or they have a new blouse and want something to compliment it. I love to work with you, to see your ideas come to life. It is so fun to show someone my supplies, and say - "What exactly are you looking for" - and you see their eyes light up at all the potential scattered on the table. They begin to piece it together, these beads, these stones, those crystals, and this clasp.

It is so much fun to encourage people to design. They don't feel they have an artist bone in their body, but when the piece is finally complete, and they hug you for capturing exactly what they were wanting, throw a little reality back that them. They are the ones who created it, I just strung it. Then you see the gears turning in their head -"if I did this, what else can I do!?!??"

That is where these earrings came from. I was approached with a sketch and an idea, and they turned out fabulous!
