Womens Morning Out Sale

What a blast I had yesterday. I was nervous as all get out, moreso about the new booth look (simple but still creative) and after it was set up, it wasn't so bad.


I got SO many compliments on the booth from vendors and customers. I tried a different approach. Instead of having only display boards and T-bars, I had things laid out and used different props for displays. It let the customers browse the full effect of the jewelry at a glance as opposed to getting a side view from a T-bar. Success. My booth was busy!

I was thrilled to be placed next to the window, the sunlight complimented my pieces so well.







Some close up shots. I used the issues of Bead Trends I was in as part of the display. It made a great conversation starter with the customers. My T-bars are getting worn and ratty. Instead of buying new ones, I wrapped them in fabric. The stoic white of the jewelry counter look just doesn't go, so why invest in new, when the stability of the T-bars are just fine. I like the eclectic look and I think it compliments my style of jewelry.







It was a small venue, set up in the club house of a planned community of over 700 houses (that is bigger than the town I grew up in) This is a regular event and in the past has drawn a nice crowd. I met some wonderful people and made some excellent contacts. I have been picked up by two businesses in a neighboring town, and have been invited to be in an art merchants event later in the fall. I have to get busy!!!!

Thursday Quickie - Filler

I have a show on Saturday and am really excited about it. I have been working putting together new displays and a new look for the booth. I think it will be nice. As I was arranging and pricing new items I looked at my earring board. It was sad and lonely. I didn't like a lot of the earrings that were there, I have had them for a while, and in my mind they are 'dated'. I removed the earrings I was not happy with, and now there are holes in the display.

*ponder*

So I sat down this morning and whipped up what I call filler. Filler are the items that are easy and inexpensive to make but still have a great quality about them. They make the booth appear fuller, they have a nice shine to them, so they are eye catching (magpies love them too), they are priced just right as to not detract from the higher end pieces, and this allows a broader customer base to shop. Although the money is nice, I can't have a 'target' customer base of rich people. I want everyone to walk in and find something they like, that is beautiful and in a comfortable price range. Putting the filler in the mix will also allow the customer to buy something without having to justify the purchase and more than likely they will come back for that higher priced item when an occasion rolls around for gift giving or they just want to splurge on themselves a bit.

That said, here is a handful of the filler earrings, priced at $8. Now to get them on cards and hung :)

Communication with jewelry

I dropped off some new inventory at The Nature of Art this morning. My stuff has been moving out of there lately and I am pleased. Typically when I bring in new things, I try to 'theme' them. By theme I mean, I create the pieces using a common property from the stones. This month I chose communication.

Here is a smattering of the pieces I took in and their properties.

Chrysocola, lapis, lepidolite, labradorite, larvakite

Chrysocola - gentle stone and its energy works in a gentle, harmonious way.
Labradorite -provides clarity and insight
Lapis - brings truthfulness, openness
Lepidolite - calm, trust, and acceptance.
Larvakite - is associated with the throat chakra where communication comes from









Rhyolite and carnelian

Rhyolite, carnelian, tiger eye
Carnelian - can aid memory.







Lapis, citrine

Lapis - brings truthfulness, openness
Citrine - mental clarity, confidence, happiness and will power





Amazonite, apatite, carnelian

Amazonite - ruth, honor, communication
Apatite - increase intellect, imagination, and intuitive awareness
Carnelian - can aid memory

August - Peridot

August's birthstone is Peridot - say it with me - Pair-uh-doe.

Peridot is a beautiful stone, the best known gem variety of olivine. Some historians believe that some of the "emeralds" worn by Cleopatra were actually peridot. Peridot is worn not only for its beauty, but also for the belief it is supposed to bring the wearer success, peace, and good luck.
